Queens Park
Established in 1884, Queens Park is one of Mackay’s most loved historic parks.
With gardens, lawns, playgrounds, dog parks and heritage buildings, it’s the perfect place to relax, play or enjoy nature in the city.
Queens Park covers 11 hectares in the heart of the city and combines heritage, horticulture and recreation.
Key features include:
- Royal Palm Avenue
- Jubilee Tree
- Robert Bell Band Pavilion
Many mature trees were planted by original curator Robert Bell and still stand today.
Facilities include:
- Two playgrounds
- Two fully fenced off leash dog parks
- BBQ and picnic shelters
- Sealed shared pathways
Queens Park tree trail: Stories of the young and old
Follow the tree trail to discover a selection of significant trees throughout the park.
Some trees date back to original plantings by Robert Bell. A small number require stepping off sealed pathways.

Ken Burgess Orchid Display House
Located within Queens Park, the Ken Burgess Orchid Display House opened in 1988.
The display features Australian native and exotic orchids from around the world. Some orchids are more than 75 years old.
Displays change regularly, so there is always something new to see.
Dogs in the park
Queens Park has two fenced off leash areas:
- One for small dogs
- One for large dogs
Dogs must be on a leash outside these areas and are not permitted in playgrounds.
Help us care for Queens Park
You can help by:
- Not collecting plant or animal material without approval
- Riding bikes slowly on shared pathways
- Using designated car parking spaces only
- Following signage and park rules
